Homeopathy to treat Insect Bites

July 25, 2015

There are many homeopathic remedies and allergy treatments for the effects of insect stings and snakebites, preventing insect allergies and long-term lingering conditions. With the arrival of warm weather, most people notice the increase in the number of critters who enjoy nothing better than snacking on human flesh.  There is plenty of anecdotal evidence from over 250 years of effective use of homeopathy for the relief of insect stings and snakebites.  It is important to get a clear symptom picture and any unique symptoms to help determine which homeopathic remedy is indicated.
In an acute situation you may need to repeat the remedy more frequently and stop when any improvement is felt.  It is always suggested to contact a Registered Homeopath who has completed extensive homeopathy training at a credible homeopathic college.
The following remedies are helpful to have on hand this summer season:

APIS: This medicine is good for red, inflamed insect bites from which children experience burning or stinging pain that is worse by heat or warm applications and relieved by cold or cool applications.
HYPERICUM: If children develop sharp or shooting pains from a bite or sting, consider this remedy.
LEDUM: This is the most common medicine for itching bites or stings from mosquitoes, bees, wasps, spiders, and rats. The itching from the bite or sting is relieved by cold applications and is sensitive to touch.
STAPHISAGRIA: When mosquito or other insect bites itch excessively or become large welts, this medicine should be given.
A Homeopath in Alberta has created Mozi-Q, a unique chewable homeopathic pill that is purported to prevent insect bites and stings.  It contains Staphysagria, Ledum palustre, Urtica urens, Cedron and Grindelia.  Protect yourself this season!
