The effects of acupuncture and homoeopathy in general practice
There are over 200,000,000 people who use Homeopathy worldwide and the demand for this gorgeous system of medicine continues to grow.
A pragmatic documentation study in general practice funded within the scope of project launched by a German health insurer was conducted: Measuring the effects of acupuncture and homoeopathy in general practice: an uncontrolled prospective documentation approach by Güthlin C, Lange O, Walach H.
Patients were followed-up for up to four years after their initial Homeopathic (or acupuncture) treatment.
The aim of the project was to study the effects and benefits of acupuncture and/or homoeopathy, and to assess patient satisfaction within prospective documentation. As data sources, the documentation made available by therapists was used, on every individual visit and a standardised quality-of-life questionnaire; these were complemented by questions concerning the patient’s medical history and by questions on patient satisfaction.
The results showed evidence of a subjective benefit for patients from homoeopathy, this may account for the increase in demand for these treatments especially when patients are chronically ill and unsatisfied with the conventional treatment given previously. The doctors’ ratings of the change of complaints showed significant improvement of complaints over the course of treatment.
