Why I Chose to become a Homeopath
Why I Chose to become a Homeopath

The principal factor that draws me to homeopathy is that it is a scientific system proven to be effective by stimulating and strengthening the individual’s natural defence mechanisms. On the other hand, allopathic medicine is a gigantic profit making industry which masks the problems by suppressing, or antagonizing the immune system, while simultaneously causing adverse reactions. The undersirable generation of new strains of viruses and bacteria caused by the excessive and blind use of conventional medicine is alarming to me. In addition, I am keen to study a system whose philosophy teaches that physical, mental and spiritual well being is interdependent. Another aspect of the homeopathic system that is very important to me is that the person is considered both as a whole and as an individual. By this manner, personalized treatments can be designed accordingly. I am a strong believer that individuals react differently to certain conditions and will, therefore, exhibit different symptoms. This is a very crucial factor that helps in the prevention against the misdiagnosing of disease.
The preceding point brings me to another special interest of mine: Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I see too many children who have had the ADHD label put on them by physicians, along with medications such as Ritalin. These medications cause side effects such as irritability and stomach aches, which ironically may lead to loss of concentration, the original problem. Many of these children may have other issues that may be causing them to be acting up; many lack discipline or may simply have an emotional matter that has been left unattended by the parents. It is undeniable, however, that some children have been correctly diagnosed with this condition and therefore require a non-toxic treatment to improve their symptoms. I have worked with special needs children for a few years and I have witnessed some of the side effects caused by their medications. I believe that homeopathy has a lot to offer to children with conditions such as Autism and ADHD. I actually worked with an Autistic boy last year whose behavior has dramatically improved because his mother sought homeopathic treatments. I researched many alternative medicine programs and after visiting several homeopathic schools I feel that The Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine offers the most comprehensive and dynamic homeopathy training. As a future homeopath, I would like to continue working with special needs children to help them in their development through the introduction of effective and safe treatments.
On a more personal note, I have been exposed to the effectiveness of homeopathy since I was a child. I remember when my brother experienced many sleepless nights and daily discomfort from bronchitis. My mother felt overwhelmed by the persistency of his condition despite all the treatments given to him by the physician and the specialist. So, any other determined and desperate mother would do, she sought an alternative and decided to take my brother to a homeopath. Needless to say, my brother was cured and has never had such a severe condition again. As an adult, I have also seen the effectiveness that homeopathy has provided for my mother and sister, who have been treated for a few conditions by a homeopath.
Homeopathy is growing in popularity at a rapid rate, making in an exciting and attractive field to get into at this point in time. More and more patients and even physicians are becoming aware of many dangers from synthetic drugs and are turning to homeopathy for answers; thus opening the door to a prosperous future to this field. As a homeopath, I would also have the opportunity to become independent by starting my own practice in the future, which is a goal that I have set for myself. Ultimately, homeopathy will help me to achieve self-fulfillment as it will provide me with invaluable knowledge that, in addition to my future patients, I will be able to apply to my loved ones and to myself.
