Mammals and milk remedies are such a significant part of homeopathic practice – or at least they should be! Since the pioneering work of Nancy Herrick and others in the 1990s, Lac remedies and mammal-based remedies have taken on an increasingly important role within our repertories and materia medicas. What was once a relatively small group has expanded into a rich and growing body of knowledge.
This expansion reflects their deep clinical relevance. Lac and mammal remedies have important affinities across a wide range of presentations, including infertility, childhood attachment and trauma, chronic fatigue, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and many other physical and emotional conditions.
And yet, despite their importance, these remedies remain underrepresented in the literature. Many practitioners find them difficult to fully grasp or differentiate, particularly as they are not traditional polycrests (with the exception, perhaps, of Lac caninum). As a result, they are often overlooked in practice.
This full-day lecture is designed to bring clarity, structure, and accessibility to this important group of remedies.
We will begin by exploring the overarching themes of Lac remedies and the mammal kingdom as a whole. From there, we will look more closely at subgroups, such as canids, felidae, and others, developing a deeper understanding of their shared and distinguishing characteristics.
Building on this foundation, we will then study individual remedies through a thematic and clinically grounded lens. By moving beyond isolated keynotes and into a more integrated understanding, these remedies become easier to recognize, remember, and apply in practice. Even when working with lesser-known remedies, this approach will support your ability to identify the correct group and arrive at a confident prescription.
We will also explore comparisons between commonly confused remedies, offering practical tools to help refine differentiation and strengthen prescribing accuracy.
Drawing from clinical cases, accumulated experience, and insights from a wide range of sources, this lecture is designed to crystallize and clarify your understanding of Lac remedies; supporting you in working with this essential group with greater ease, depth, and confidence.

Joy Burlton received her Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree from the University of Western Ontario, always having had an interest in medicine. After a lot of investigation into different modalities she discovered homeopathy and found it to be a perfect fit for the type of deep healing she valued.
Homeopathy, she found was the perfect tool to aid others in experiencing this type of healing and lasting health. She then went on to achieve Honours in her four-year post-graduate Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Health Sciences at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine (OCHM).
Joy is a licensed Homeopath and has been practising in Toronto since 2007. She has enjoyed growing her practice and raising more awareness about homeopathy in Toronto and surrounding areas. Joy is part of the faculty at OCHM and is a clinical supervisor. Our students love her depth and breadth of knowledge and the many case examples she brings to her teaching.
