Homeopathic Drug Remedies, Addictions and Self-Destructive Pathology

We live in a time when the need for self-soothing is constant and the options for numbing are everywhere. Substances, both pharmaceutical and street-based, are more accessible than ever. From opioids and stimulants to alcohol, nicotine, and prescription medications, relief can feel just a click away. At the same time, the suffering that drives dependence is often rooted in trauma, dysregulation, and deep internal distress.
In this full-day seminar, Joy Burlton will explore addiction and self-destructive pathology through a classical homeopathic lens. The focus will not only be on the substances themselves, but on the underlying state of the person who needs them.
Topics will include:
• The etiology and manifestation of addiction
• The relationship between trauma and substance dependence
• Recognizing the homeopathic state in cases of addiction
• The materia medica of drug-derived remedies, including MDMA, Cocaine, crystal meth, and amphetamines, and how to apply them across a range of conditions
• Clinical discussion of alcoholism and prescription dependencies such as Vyvanse and albuterol
• Identifying common themes within the group of drug remedies and how they may apply across cases
• The use of neurotransmitters and sarcodes in states of dysregulation (including screen addiction), as well as in constitutional prescribing
• Supporting patients during physical withdrawal using isopathy and classical homeopathy, within appropriate and responsible care
Joy will share insights from over twenty years of clinical experience working with complex addiction cases. The day will be practical, case-informed, and grounded in real-world prescribing challenges. Questions and focused case discussion will be welcomed throughout.

Joy Burlton received her Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree from the University of Western Ontario, always having had an interest in medicine. After a lot of investigation into different modalities she discovered homeopathy and found it to be a perfect fit for the type of deep healing she valued.
Homeopathy, she found was the perfect tool to aid others in experiencing this type of healing and lasting health. She then went on to achieve Honours in her four-year post-graduate Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Health Sciences at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine (OCHM).
Joy is a licensed Homeopath and has been practising in Toronto since 2007. She has enjoyed growing her practice and raising more awareness about homeopathy in Toronto and surrounding areas. Joy is part of the faculty at OCHM and is a clinical supervisor. Our students love her depth and breadth of knowledge and the many case examples she brings to her teaching.
