Homeopathy’s foundations are deeply rooted in the well used polycrest remedies from Hahnemann’s era—sulfur, arsenic, mercury, and lead. These materials formed the cornerstone of Materia Medica Pura, revolutionizing our understanding of remedies. These were also the substances that were commonly used by allopaths. In the 18th and 19th centuries, these substances were ubiquitous: they polluted the water, were present in eating utensils, and represented some of the most pervasive industrial contaminants. Their toxicological effects provided the basis for homeopathic remedies, and their potentized forms offered profound healing.
Today, the substances we encounter have changed dramatically. Modern life bombards us with a whole new array of toxins: petrochemicals, plastics, and neuro-endocrine disruptors such as glyphosate, phthalates, bisphenol-A, PFAS, and dioxins. These man-made substances permeate our air, water, food, and bodies, posing health challenges far beyond what Graphites or Petrolatum could treat.
The remarkable potential of homeopathy lies in its ability to evolve alongside these technological advancements and exposures. These modern toxins, when potentized, hold immense potential for healing when indicated. However, their application requires a deep understanding of their unique symptomatology, toxicological profiles, and therapeutic indications. The magic is, we need to know what to look for and how to apply it.
In this class we will go over the individual groups of these remedies to help you understand their differences and similarities.
What You’ll Learn in This Lecture:
• Understanding Modern Toxins as Remedies
Dive into the unique characteristics and health impacts of petrochemicals, plastics, and neuro-endocrine disruptors. Learn how these substances manifest in human health and how their potentized forms can address specific imbalances as indicated.
• Materia Medica and Case Studies
Explore poisoning profiles, provings, and clinical cases to deepen your understanding of these remedies. We’ll discuss both the broad patterns and nuanced differences within this remedy group.
• Differential Diagnosis for Effective Treatment
Gain insight into selecting the right remedy for constitutional treatment or homeopathic detox remedies. Learn to discern when and how to use these remedies to help the body process and heal from the damage that they have caused.
• Practical Applications for Clinical Practice
Understand how to utilize these remedies to help the body heal from the damage caused by modern-day toxins. Whether addressing chronic conditions, detoxification, or acute issues, these remedies can transform your practice.
This class provides a comprehensive look at how modern exposures can be met with homeopathic solutions. By examining cases, analyzing materia medica, and engaging in open discussions, you’ll leave with a better grasp of how to incorporate these remedies into your practice. Together, we’ll explore how the principles of homeopathy continue to offer profound healing in the face of today’s complex toxic challenges.
Bring your questions, cases, and experiences—our collaborative discussion will enrich everyone’s understanding. Let’s explore how homeopathy can rise to meet the needs of our modern world.

Joy Burlton received her Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree from the University of Western Ontario, always having had an interest in medicine. After a lot of investigation into different modalities she discovered homeopathy and found it to be a perfect fit for the type of deep healing she valued.
Homeopathy, she found was the perfect tool to aid others in experiencing this type of healing and lasting health. She then went on to achieve Honours in her four-year post-graduate Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Health Sciences at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine (OCHM).
Joy is a licensed Homeopath and has been practising in Toronto since 2007. She has enjoyed growing her practice and raising more awareness about homeopathy in Toronto and surrounding areas. Joy is part of the faculty at OCHM and is a clinical supervisor. Our students love her depth and breadth of knowledge and the many case examples she brings to her teaching.
