UNLOCKING THE POWER OF ANIMAL NOSODES:
VITAL REMEDIES FOR TODAY’S CHALLENGES

Unlocking the Power of Animal Nosodes in Homeopathy

Date/time: December 7th, 2024 (9am – 5pm EDT) | Cost: $100 until December 1st, 2024 and $125 thereafter | Lecturer: Joy Burlton

Within our wonderful homeopathic pharmacopeia there is a relatively small group of nosodes, hiding out, waiting dormant, to be rediscovered at the right time, and that time is now; those remedies are, the animal nosodes. This moment calls us to explore and engage with them, as they hold valuable insights for our patients and our practice.

This group includes such important remedies as Lyssinum, Mallandrinum, Oscillococcinum, amongst the most well know animal nosodes. There are however a whole other host of remedies in this group that are largely unknown and most certainly underutilized. This is not a new phenomenon! While Jenner was using cowpox as a crude vaccine, the very same year, Hahnemann was conducting provings and using Variolinum to prevent and treat smallpox and other diseases from this same family came about. The diseases and information are ever present and it is time for us to harness their healing powers once again to affect change in our patient’s lives.

As we encroach upon wildlife habitats and alter our DNA/RNA, immune systems, and microbiome, we also contribute to shifts in the broader ecosystem—affecting the world’s organisms and the virulent undercurrents that drive life’s interconnected balance. We are inextricably connected, destined either to work, heal, and grow together, or to face illness and decline if we cannot adapt and achieve a new balance of homeostasis.

I witness adults and children every day grappling with unseen forces, profoundly affected by infections that ravage their bodies and minds, often diagnosed as PANS/PANDAS. Their immune systems, once defenders, now seem to be overtaken, leaving them in distress. There’s the teenager who suddenly refuses to eat, fears water, and erupts into uncontrollable rage, sometimes even biting her mother; and the eight-year-old with tics who can’t stop spitting—both finding some relief with Lyssinum as a central remedy. These cases are alarmingly more prevalent, underscoring the relevance of remedies like Lyssinum in today’s world. As species-specific illnesses transform and cross over to humans—like avian and swine flu—such remedies have become essential for navigating the complex interplay of infections that transcend traditional boundaries. The critical relevance of these remedies in our current time cannot be overstressed.

In this lecture, we will delve into the various viral and pathogenic groups to equip you with the tools to identify and apply these remedies effectively in your patients. We’ll explore their use in acute cases, isopathically, and constitutionally, offering a comprehensive perspective that connects global (macro) trends to individual (micro) manifestations and back again, helping us see the full picture of how these remedies work.

This session will include an interactive mini-proving experience of one of these substances to deepen our understanding, and we’ll study individual remedies in detail, supported by case examples to illustrate their application. Join us to gain insights into spotting, understanding, and using these powerful tools in practice.

As always, cases, questions and an interactive learning experience are welcome!

Instructor: Joy Burlton BSc, DHMHS, HOM

Joy Burlton received her Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree from the University of Western Ontario, always having had an interest in medicine. After a lot of investigation into different modalities she discovered homeopathy and found it to be a perfect fit for the type of deep healing she valued.

Homeopathy, she found was the perfect tool to aid others in experiencing this type of healing and lasting health. She then went on to achieve Honours in her four-year post-graduate Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Health Sciences at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine (OCHM).

Joy is a licensed Homeopath and has been practising in Toronto since 2007. She has enjoyed growing her practice and raising more awareness about homeopathy in Toronto and surrounding areas. Joy is part of the faculty at OCHM and is a clinical supervisor. Our students love her depth and breadth of knowledge and the many case examples she brings to her teaching.
